Status
We were to restructure and redesign the existing working portal completely for a brand new relaunch.
Role & Contribution
I was tasked with the overall design aspect for this project. From ideation all the way to prototyping.
Challenge
To re-design the existing portal with multiple upgrades and feature additions for all types of users.
Project Intro
InstaComm is a service which enables a user to send bulk messages. This can be a B2B or B2E service with multiple access levels for different users.
Work
After understanding the client’s requirements, I proceed with the research phase.
I. Market Analysis
A quick search over Google showed us that this market is saturated. However, many of them didn’t have the key solutions and features that InstaComm provided.
II. Competitive Analysis
On researching the close competitors, many of the pain-points were realised. A few of the competition we researched was kaleyra, bulksms, sendpulse, textlocal, fast2sms, bulksmsgateway, bulksmsind, 2factor, mtalkz, Infobip.
III. Research Insights
Upon reviewing each competitor product and the user feedback therein, we were able to jot down the features required.

IV. Feature Priority
The above insights helped to prioritise features as follows -

V. Persona
From the research and analysis, we came up with a set of different potential end-users and their behaviours.
VI. Information Architecture
Based on the findings above, an information architecture for all portals were finalized after a couple of iterations.

VII. Wireframes
The entire portal was designed with focus on usability, consistency and scalability.
The elements are reused wherever applicable, general heuristics followed and tested with users before iterations.

VIII. Testing
The wireframes were tested and validated by the end-users, to which changes were made to accommodate different types of use-case scenarios.

IX. User Interface (UI)
All portals had two main themes styles: Dark & Light modes, with each mode having it's own palette.

Note: The UI design was done by another fellow designer. I assisted in some areas.
X. Specific Challenges & Discoveries
Since there were 4 different portals, keeping them consistent with different features and requirements was quite interesting. But there were a few parts which posed a greater challange to tackle.
Note: The following data is blurred as per NDA compliance. Contact for more info.
a. SMS Creation
A major portion of the time and effort was put into SMS creation journey, since this defines the core experience of the system.
Multiple use-case scenarios were taken into consideration and iterated well over 6 times to arrive at a design that is accepted by all.
b. Reports
The reports section went through a complete redesign to fit various types of data. Multiple ways to filter table or find a particular data was kept to ensure the familiarity was kept intact while keeping the section clean and simple.
Making this section responsive with extensive data was definitely a challenge.
Result
Designing a range of products from scratch was a refreshing experience. From learning of practicality to feasibility of different approaches, to actual prototyping of the same; I have gained an immense amount of real-world knowledge that will definitely help in the future.
